Hi Everyone, i am in Israel right now, and will be going to Jerusalem on wednesday. i have access to a car, and would to get recommendations on cool places to go. although the "wailing wall" is a great place to go to (i'm going, i'm going!) i'd love to know more of the off the beaten path places. i do have access to a car, and i am a bit hesitant about going into the arabic part of the old city....

Re: jerusalem recommendations?
Fri, October 19, 2007 - 11:04 AMi'm no left winger and seriously no worries on the arabic part of the old city. it's all good - they just need your tourist dollars. the old city is your major destination here if you only have one day (how sad!)
the promenade/tayelet has an awesome view of the old city and is a nice walk, but most people go from the old city to yad vashem if they're only here for the day.
i strongly recommend starting the day at the jbo: www.jbo.org.il/Eng%20index.htm
it's free, it's adjacent to the knesset and it's freaking awesome. you can actually drive right into the knesset grounds if you're going to the jbo - you park just past the bird observatory. it's best to go in the morning to see birds/people watching birds/etc. - plus as a bonus you get to see the knesset and supreme court close up.
bars in jerusalem are way more happening than in tel aviv (ta is poser-fancy clubs/jerusalem is down to earth and/or alternative) and would recommend some if you are staying over (nothing opens til 11 or so) if you say what scene you prefer.
