There must be so many places that Lonely Planet does not cover, especially nature hikes. Any tips for day hikes throughout the Holy Land? Thanks!!!

Re: Holy Land Explorations?
Sun, November 25, 2007 - 9:53 AMHello!
I forget the name of the park, but there is a very beautifull nature park in the norh close to Rosh Pina, a bit farther north, on the climb to the Golan Heights, by the town of Kazrin. There are (fi I remember right) 3 or 4 waterfalls, and at least 2 nice sized pools to swim, lounge in. I went in Oct (not of this year) and it was great. You can spend as little as 2 hours, or up to 8 if you walk and stop to swim at all the spots. Good fun my dear, and good luck. When are you going?

Mon, November 26, 2007 - 1:56 AMThere are some very nice day hikes in the Jerusalem area, Sataf for instance

If you go there be sure to visit Shai Zeltzer for cave-aged goat cheeses and goat yogurt. Also the best hummus in the country :) is only 10 minutes drive away - the Lebanese restaurant in Abu Gosh. And of course the whole Judean Hills area is packed with wineries. You can find a nice map and a list of wineries and cheese makers here (pdf) www.touryoav.org.il/english.pdf -

Wed, November 28, 2007 - 4:47 PMSPNI-Jerusalem is one of the only organizations with regularly scheduled guided group hikes in english...and even they only have a few a week, but when you get to jerusalem, ask them what they have bc they are cheap and wonderful. 02-625-7682

all the SPNI field schools have cheap hostels and are adjacent to the country's nature reserves, where there are no hotels and no nothing. field schools run guided tours in nature all the time.
