Journeying to my Love

Hey friends

I am coming to Israel in July. She has been calling for a while, whispering gently in my dreams, my meditations, my heart. Its as if she is a deep lover of mine that is calling me home, back to the tenderness of her embrace, to be held my her as new life births from our relationship.

I have never been to the middle east yet. I am part Lebanese and have family there still but I am more attracted to Israel now. Does anyone have any connections they are called to share with me? communities? any reccomendations of places to be? all land is sacred, any spots in particular that I must see?

In love now and forever
which airline to use?

I haven't posted here since I got back from my last trip, but I have another one coming up in November. Yay! And my wife's coming with me, and we'll have time to go visit all the people I didn't see last year.

So, does anyone have any airline recommendations? I was considering going British Air this time, instead of El Al.

Cruise Book Published - Israeli Author

Hi

I am a local author in San Francisco spreading word about my new book about my life working on a cruise ship. Permanent Passenger: My Life on a Cruise Ship chronicles my wacky job search to get my dream job as Assistant Cruise Director and takes you behind the scenes on a cruise ship.

Witnessing rescues at sea, stowaways, fatalities, and passionate romances are just some of the day to day events revealed in this intriguing and humorous account.

Go to www.permanentpassenger.com to see more about the book.

Truly a very funny insightful book that will make you laugh – cry – and throw up just a bit.

Cheers

vegetarian kibbutzim in Israel?

Are there any vegetarian kibbutzim in Israel?

I'm vegan, and if there are any vegan kibbutzim in Israel, that would be even better! But, I figured it would be more likely to find a vegetarian kibbutz.

Hi all. I'll be traveling to Israel for the 1st time next week. I was wondering if anyone knew of any interesting events between Oct 15-Oct 29. We don't have much of an itinerary yet - gonna start at my husband's family's home in Moshav Lachish then on to Jerusalem.

Also, general ideas and words of advice are much appreciated.

getting there

http://www.goisrael.com/Tourism_Eng/Tourist+Information/Getting+There/Travel+by+Air.htm

Travel by Air

Air Travel to Israel

Most of the international airlines operate flights to Israel. El Al, operates many direct flights from the United States, Europe, the Far East, and Africa.
Other Israeli airlines such as Arkia and Israir operate flights from central locations in Europe. There are no direct flights to Israel from distant locations such as Australia or South Africa, or from countries that have no diplomatic relations with Israel. It is therefore a good idea to reserve a connecting flight from these places, or to arrive in Europe and then purchase a ticket to Israel.

Flight times to Israel from some cities:

From London - about 4 ½ hours

From Los Angeles - about 17 hours

From New York - about 11 hours

From Singapore - about 11 hours

Most international flights land at Ben Gurion Airport, which is located near the town of Lod - approximately a half hour’s drive from Tel Aviv. Ben Gurion airport has recently opened a new, modern terminal with a large variety of duty-free shops, restaurants, and coffeehouses. Some flights from Europe also land at Sde Dov in north Tel Aviv or at Ovda Airport near Eilat.

http://www.myutmost.org/09/0919.html

September 19th.

DO YOU CONTINUE TO GO WITH JESUS?

"Ye are they which have continued with Me in My temptations." Luke 22:28

It is true that Jesus Christ is with us in our temptations, but are we going with Him in His temptations? Many of us cease to go with Jesus from the moment we have an experience of what He can do. Watch when God shifts your circumstances, and see whether you are going with Jesus, or siding with the world, the flesh and the devil. We wear His badge, but are we going with Him? "From that time many of His disciples went back and walked no more with Him."

The temptations of Jesus continued throughout His earthly life, and they will continue throughout the life of the Son of God in us. Are we going with Jesus in the life we are living now?

We have the idea that we ought to shield ourselves from some of the things God brings round us. Never! God engineers circumstances and whatever they may be like we have to see that we face them while abiding continually with Him in His temptations. They are His temptations, not temptations to us, but temptations to the life of the Son of God in us. The honour of Jesus Christ is at stake in your bodily life. Are you remaining loyal to the Son of God in the things which beset His life in you?

Do you continue to go with Jesus? The way lies through Gethsemane, through the city gate, outside the camp; the way lies alone, and the way lies until there is no trace of a footstep left, only the voice, "Follow Me."

Here are some of the best things to complement your visit to Israel: a taste of Israeli food, arts and cultural life, trips in Israel’s national parks and nature reserves, religious sites, therapeutic resorts, and archaeological treasures.
***
Religious interest

Israel, The Holy Land, is an important center for all three monotheistic religions, with many sites of interest around the country, especially in the Old City of Jerusalem and its sacred sites. Visit the sites where Jewish history was formed, walk in the footsteps of Jesus and his followers, or ascend the Dome of the Rock on Temple Mount.

Since 1980, tens of thousands of Christians from the four corners of the earth have come up to Jerusalem in answer to God's call to celebrate the ancient biblical festival of Succot. Combining powerful preaching and an anointed program of music and dance, the ICEJ's annual Feast of Tabernacles is truly a unique event.

This year the feast will host speakers such as Jack Hayford, Jane Hansen, Mosy Madugba, Robert Stearns and David Pawson for a week of teaching, worship and ministry that begins in the desert of En Gedi and spills over onto the streets of Jerusalem with the annual Succot pilgrim march.

Internationally-acclaimed guest artists and performers include Israeli cantorial legend Dudu Fisher, US piano maestro Dino Kartsonakis and the inspiring Watoto Children's Choir from Kampala, Uganda.

Livni offers Israeli assistance for Greek blazes

Foreign minister Tzipi Livni offered, in a telephone conversation late Saturday evening with her Greek counterpart Dora Bakoyannis, to send Israeli assistance to Greece.

A thick pall of reddish smoke from a forest fire in Evia, some 50 kilometers away, hangs over the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, on Saturday.
Photo: AP
Massive forest fires sweeping across Greece since Friday killed at least 44 people and injured dozens more.

Israel is currently waiting for a Greek response detailing exactly what assistance the country needs.

Earlier Saturday, the Greek fire department said that a man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and homicide.

The Greek prime minister declared a nationwide state of emergency following the disaster.

"All regions of the country are declared in a state of emergency ... to stop this evil and to start repairing the destruction as soon as possible," Costas Karamanlis said in a televised address to the nation.

Since Friday morning, more than 170 blazes have swept across the country, with the most devastating in the Peloponnese to the south. New fires broke out Saturday, and fears grew that the death toll could increase as rescue crews reached villages that had been cut off by walls of flames.

The skies above Athens turned red with smoke, and ashes fell in the center of the capital as wind drove the flames across the parched landscape.

The fires were so severe that authorities said they could not yet provide an estimate of how much damage they had caused, nor what expanse of land had been burned.

News reports put the death toll at 50, although authorities could not immediately confirm the higher number.

The deadliest fire was in the western Peloponnese near the town of Zaharo. It cost more than 30 lives, including those of a mother and her four children.

"The country is in a state of emergency. I call on all citizens to assist in the collective fight, which must be won for the good of the country," Karamanlis said in his address. "I feel deep pain for the mother who perished in the flames with her arms round her children."

Throughout the night and into Saturday, desperate residents and local mayors trapped by fires in remote villages called television and radio stations to appeal for help from overstretched firefighters. It was unclear how many people remained trapped in remote villages on Saturday afternoon.

Seeds for peace in the middle east?

Hay all!
I've tried to post a this before, but for some reason, it didn't registrar and folks couldn't read what I had written. So, I'm going to attempt to write it out again and hopefully this time, we'll have more responses,

Ok, so...a little info and background. I'm in Israel, and working on a project out here to grow herbs for the community. Also, wanting very much to have a program available for kids and their parents to learn about plants and how they communicate with us on all levels. It's really something that isn't being done here and I would like to bring this opportunity to light. I need some help. That's way i'm writing this request. We have a few green houses, so climate is not an issue. We need seeds! All different kinds, but organic. Herbs and winter vegetables.

The list for herbs:Elder flowers ,Yarrow ,Sage ,Rose hips ,Echinacea,Mullein,Astragalus,
Poke Root,Elecampane ,Thyme.

We are asking for 30 seeds each be sent to Israel.
We are asking for donations, since this project can really use all the help it can get and we really don't have the funds to get these seeds. Also, we request that the seeds are from your own garden and collected by you. It's a beautifal thing to know that the seeds that we are receiving are from people who cared for these plants and havested the seeds themselves. There is a story there and it makes it interesting to explain where these seeds came from and who cared for them. We like telling it this way.

Our request for organic Veggie seeds:
Celery ,Chinese leaves ,Dark greens ,Leeks ,Mushrooms, Squashes ,Winter roots ,Winter salads.

If it's not too much trouble to send the seeds with labels so we know what is what.

If you have any questions please feel to send me a message.
Thanks so much for helping us with this project. I mean a lot to us and the many people who's lives will be changed by your seeds.

If you are interested, please let me know and I can give out the address of where to send the seeds.

~peace~

I am going to Israel in June. I am planning on staying a few months, leaving after my visa expires, and possibly coming back soon thereafter.

As a dancer and a native english speaker, is there money (I don't need much) to be made in performing and/or teaching english?
How about nannying?

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge regarding work there?

Thanks!

A unique Israeli experience for those seeking a more meaningful visit to the Holy Land.
Whether you are visiting for a short time or long, you will find our facilities intimate and refreshing, and our mountain filled with the peace of our blessed Messiah.

We are a blend of both Jewish and non-Jewish people who have a love for Israel and are here to serve you.

Our moshav is nestled in the forests of the Judean mountains, 15 kilometers west of Jerusalem. We are the perfect home in Israel while you tour from Galilee to Eilat. The moshav is a quick bus ride or drive to the Old City, or a haven for those seeking a time of refreshment.
>>

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
History of Yad Hashmona
The moshav was founded by a small group of Finnish Christians in 1971 in memory of eight Jewish refugees who were turned over to the Nazi Germany. Israeli Jews joined the moshav in 1978 on the common ground of faith in Yeshua HaMashiah (Jesus the Messiah) and belief in the Bible as the inerrant Word of God and as our standard for faith and practice. Most of the members are now Israelis and the main daily spoken language is Hebrew. The settlement is primarily engaged in tourism and carpentry.

Hugging Jerusalem - multiethnic , multireligious hands around the old city

Today I am traveling to Jerusalem to "hug" the Holy City . I will be one of 5,000 people who will hold hands around the walls of Jerusalem`s Old City on May 21.
This is for Love for Jerusalem that unites people of all walks of life. After thousands of years of, the time has come to respect each other. We each have our own personal ways and ideas. The love we share for Jerusalem can facilitate new ways to enjoy these differences and live in harmony."

Thousands of Jews, Muslims Christians and others from Israel, the Palestinian Territories and from around the world will meet at four locations around the Old City of Jerusalem.

There, we will meet each other, and at 4:00 pm, we shall follow drummers to spread around the walls of the city, Hand in hand, we will create one huge circle, a human hug to Jerusalem. During the hug we shall each express our pure intent and offer our personal blessing of love to the holy city, the heart of the world, and know that we all are doing it together.

Hi folks,

I'll be in Israel for up to a few months starting in September. Can you recommend any places to perform folk music in the Hevel Eilot area ? Or anywhere else within a two hour commute ? Are there any good music venue resources that you know of ?

Much appreciated,

Tribe's response to complaint about porn photos on this site

A photo of a woman exposing her genitals appears every time I go to a tribe I created. Apparently, it's a photo of one of the individuals who choose to join my site. I was offended by the photo (as were others) and wrote to the content manager. I was shocked at the response I got. Tribe felt that it was OK for this woman (and others) to post pornographic photos. Tribe needs to review it's code for Conduct and Content. If the rules have changed, they need to let decent folks know. Here is the E-mail string below.

*************************************
E-mail from me to the content editor:

"Hello, I would like to report a Pornography site called, “kinky mature women & we that love them”. It is connected through a member of my tribe, “The Over 40 Crowd”. It’s posting porn photos and other porn tribes next to my site when it is open. I would like to be disassociated with this tribe. Actually, I don’t think that porn should be allowed at all. If you can not remove the linkages to the porn, I will be forced to shut down the tribe, as I do not want to be associated with any pornography.

Thank you. "

Hi xxxxxx,

Thank you for your patience! We have determined that the tribes in question do not violate our Terms of Use.

Connected Tribes show you other Tribes that have the most members in common with the Tribe you're viewing. Our engineers used various calculations to come up with the most accurate portrayal of what your fellow Tribe members are into. Therefore, you cannot alter your Connected Tribes list. However, you can influence them, by inviting members from tribes you'd like to be connected with yours, and possibly ousting members from tribes you'd rather not be associated with.
Please note that the Connected Tribes module does appear in Private tribes.
If you have any additional questions at all, please feel free to reply to this message.
Best,

**********************************************
My reply:

Quite frankly, I am shocked at your response. I absolutely do disagree that a photo of a woman exposing her genitals should be displayed right next to my tribe, especially when my tribe is not related to that type of content in any way. I have attached a screen shot of her. Please look at the photo of the woman exposing herself on the left side of the screen. How could you possibly think that that would be acceptable for viewers? There are lots more photos on your site just like this one, which I sent to you, which you have obviously chosen to ignore. …And I’m not looking for them, they just display when I’m searching for non-sexual-oriented content.

Just in case you need a remedial review of your site’s code of conduct, here is the section that prohibits this type of material. What part of this do you not get?
--------------------------
1. Conduct and Content

While using or accessing the Service--directly or indirectly--you agree to take a constructive tone and practice good etiquette and courtesy and you agree NOT to:

b.post, publish, or transmit any text, graphics, or material that is illegal or violates local and national laws or that contains, encourages, advocates, or expresses: obscenity, pornography, sexually explicit conduct, child pornography, the making or buying of illegal weapons or illegal drugs, hatred, bigotry, racism, profanity, vulgarity or gratuitous violence or use of weapons;
------------------------------

I’m really embarrassed by the photo (and lots of other similar photos), and your site managers should be too. Sites like yours are chasing away lots of decent folks. Your assumption is that “everyone” likes to view smut and pornography. Guess what! Not all of us do. Get a clue... and shame on you!

israel's rainbow family have found a stunning location for a spring (extra bonus gathering!) rainbow gathering. think insane wildflowers in a hilly valley riddled with deep connecting caves and pottery shards. if you happen to be in israel and like nature and/or hippies, i think you'll like it. quite different from the american rainbow, almost everything is in hebrew, there's only one central kitchen and there is even a somewhat separate religious section, yet alcohol is allowed inside the gathering, but no dogs. it's going to be much more accessible, within an hour's drive from jerusalem. join the mideast rainbow yahoo group for more details.

What is the cheapest way to get from Turkey to Israel?

So far I can only find flights over $485 between Istanbul and and Tel Aviv.

How about taking buses from Turkey, through Syria and Jordan, to Israel?
Has anyone tried this?
How about trains?

Thanks in advance!

Finalized my trip plans - I'll be in Israel from 12/17 to 1/10. Mostly in Tel Aviv, but I'll be somewhere in the vicinity of Mt. Carmel for a few days, and traveling around a bit towards the end, too. Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, the Ramon crater, Eilat. :) Yay!

Do I need a visa? That's the one thing I'm not entirely clear on. Well, that and cell phone rentals.

In light of all the recent violence, I added two photos to the tribe site to show that there is beauty left. The land is ancient, and nature has a way of making everything look a bit brighter. While a photo cannot soothe a troubled soul, I hope at least for a moment, it seems peace will reign again soon.

The cafe culture is thriving in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, I visited last summer and had a great time. We are presently looking for some people to volunteer to review and write about cafes in the Tel Aviv and Jerusalem areas for TheCafeGuide http://www.thecafeguide.com the world's leading online cafe community.

If you either live in the area or are planning to travel to these cities and are knowledgeable about cafes. If you have a passion for coffee, tea or both then I would be interested in hearing from you, please write me at richard@thecafeguide.com

Shalom,

Shalom all!

This time last year, I was in Israel, loving up the beach in Naharyia, and searching places to dive (ok, learn to dive) and other such fab. activities.

Summer is upon you, so I was wondering, what are your plans for the season? Those who are travelling to, and those that live there. I`m feeling a bit nostalgic today, it`s been raining here (-6 days) for a month, so thinking of the sunshine is bringing me a smile!

Cheers all!

I haven't been to Israel since 1996, and I don't plan on going back anytime soon. I am partly concerned about safety, but mostly just so mad at both sides for the continued violence, that I don't want to go support either side. What are everyone else's thoughts on the issue? Is it ok to go to Israel, especially for Westerners?

Just spent a few days over the recent holiday in the Negev around Sde Boker and Mitzpe Ramon crater (the largest natural creater in the world).

These two places alone justify a visit over here. Simply spectacular. See these amazing photos (I wish I took them but I didn't).

they do have an english page somewhere but it is not always updated. this is a commercial camping festival, costs about 200 NIS for three days of non-stop concerts, mostly big israeli bands, but usually one big foreign band. it's really fun and good energy. giant tents everywhere sell food or tea/coffee and have mats all over the ground, so you chill there and meet people with whom you play cards or shesh-besh (backgammon). there are lots of hip people there but this is totally NOT the rainbow gathering, with lots of mainstream people too.

Hiya. I'm going to travel from Cairo to Israel next week. I have to get to Tiberias first. So I am wondering if bus or plane is better, how the borders are these days (i've been reading some stuff about problems at Rafah), how long it will take (one person told me 18 hours). Also wondering if anyone thinks the elections on Jan 25th will be any kind of safety issue anyway.

Thanks!!

Spaz and everyone,

I'll be traveling a lot, loose itinerary being something like
Dec 26- arrive, Tel Aviv, maybe Sderot (I want to meet Eli Moyal:), up to Kiryat Shmona, then to Haifa, down to Jerusalem, to Be'er Sheva, Sde Boker, Ben Guvrin, back to Kiryat Shmona, trips to places in the north.

Do you think I can get easy, cheap public transportation everywhere or should I rent a car ? Also, should I rent a cellphone ? Should I get these at the airport or can I get them cheaper outside ? How much do cellphones and rental cars cost ?

Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Starbucks to make a comeback (in Israel)

i know how un-pc this is, but yeah! i love starbucks! i bet they fall flat on their faces again, though bc it is NOT the israeli style, at all.

By Sivan Klingbail

Starbucks is not giving up. Its first attempt to penetrate Israel failed miserably, but the coffee house chain is trying again. The company has hired MAN Properties Real Estate Consultants to handle a deployment strategy for branches, and it is looking around for a partner-manager. MAN Properties declined to comment.

The Dan chain, which has 12 hotels in Israel, also had thought that Starbucks might like to return. A hotel industry source said that talks with Dan had been very preliminary, but the chain decided Starbucks would be non-core. Dan refused to comment for this report.

The chair of the Coffee Association and owner of Ilan's chain of cafes, Ilan Shenhav, said that everywhere in the world, Starbucks operates through partnerships with a local body that can contribute its experience. Starbucks usually owns only 20 percent of the business, leaving the other 80 percent to the local partner, although Starbucks retains an option to buy up to 50 percent of the business.

Starbucks left Israel in April 2003 with its tail between its legs, and its partnership with the Delek Group was dismantled. Delek had invested $17 million in the venture, and wrote off NIS 7 million in its 2002 financial statement.

The start of the venture had looked promising: Delek and Starbucks planned to establish 80 outlets in five years with a $30 million investment. Delek owned 80.5 percent of the partnership, and Starbucks had an option to increase its share to 50 percent.

In their official closure announcement, Starbucks and Delek placed blamed on the country's security situation. But they ignored the fact that other chains, like Ilan's, Arcaffe and Cafe Joe, simply hired guards. At first, times were tough but eventually they flourished anew.

When Starbucks arrived, Cafe Joe had six branches - now it has 22. Arcaffe also had six at the time, and now has 26, while Ilan's has doubled its stores to 12 outlets. Aroma has more than 50 branches. Their spread will make it all the harder for Starbucks to wedge its way in. Almost every mall already has a coffee shop and so do the country's main streets.

Starbucks had always said it would return regardless of the fate of its Delek partnership. But this time, it had better factor in the taste of the Israeli consumer of coffee, who simply did not like the chain's coffee the last time around. Israelis have become used to the taste of Italian coffee. And it has to get over the bad name it left behind when it threw in the towel the last time around, Shenhav said.

No comment could be obtained from Starbucks for this article.

Terrorism in Sinai

from today's haaretz

Until last year, the Red Sea area, including Egypt's Sinai, had been free of militant-inspired violence.

Beginning last October, however, the area has seen a number of deadly attacks beginning in hotels in the Egyptian resort of Taba. Last month, dozens were killed in three blasts that targeted Sharm el-Sheik, the highly popular resort at the southern tip of the Sinai.

Last week a bomb in northern Sinai hit a vehicle carrying peacekeepers of the Multinational Force and Observers, which is helping to monitor the 1979 Egypt-Israeli peace agreement. Two Canadian soldiers were slightly injured.

Bet Guvrin National Park

http://www.shemeshdirectory.co.il/tour.php?site=guvrin

I've got pics of quite a few of these caves in my profile. Maybe I'll add them to the image library if I get time.

THIS is my favorite tourist site in Israel. Whether it's your first time here or you live here, forget Masada. This is where it's at. Yes, you have to go to the Dead Sea, the Old City and maybe a few other places, but Bet Guvrin is the nature lover's or the amateur archaeologist's fantasy site. Spiritually moving, these caves are truly unlike any others you've seen anywhere, even in Israel. And they're really different from each other, weirdly. This is a whole day trip so don't bother unless you can devote a whole day to it, or you'll be kicking yourself that you can't check out more of the caves.

I am going to be attending BGU (Ben Gurion U. of the Negev) in a year as long as i can get funding. They actually had a long list of organizations i can contact for financial aid/scholorships, and i will (obviously) be contacting my temple and JCC.

I was just wondering if anyone else had any suggestions/knew of places that gave money to students attending U in Israel.

(i dont know that i can save up quite enough by then, and want to make sure i have money for food!)

Travel in one month!!!

HELP!!!

I'm getting a little nervous...needing to speak with El Al ASAP!!! Maybe someone on this site can pull some strings?

I got a voucher to fly RT to Israel in the last few days of June. So, I've been busy trying to find a program in Israel to go to for my return trip. I found a program (WUJS...ulpan extrodinaire) that is comprized of two semesters. I have funding for the first one and am looking for funding for the second one too.

Now that I got confirmation that I am in the program, I pulled out my voucher to book my flight...lo and behold, it makes mention of some 6 day minimum and 1 month maxium. The language is this:

Passenger is entitled to a ticket in Y/Class only, vaild a minium of 6 days with a maximum of one month on El-Al flights only (ticket does not include taxes).

So, basicaly, what the hell does this mean? Does this mean that I have to use up the round trip within a month or what? I need to stay from anywhere between 3-6 months!

Does anyone have experience/thoughs about this?

I'm going to post on some other sites too, just in case...

Thanks,
Julie
